Rittenhouse spring fest on Saturday

This isn't your typical street fair. Stroll the sidewalks of Walnut Street between Broad and 19th on Saturday, and you'll find kobe beef sliders instead of hotdogs, and gourmet gelato instead of ice pops.

This isn't your typical street fair. Stroll the sidewalks of Walnut Street between Broad and 19th on Saturday, and you'll find kobe beef sliders instead of hotdogs, and gourmet gelato instead of ice pops.

And forget about lining up for lame, stomach-churning carnival rides; how about getting the latest lowdown on facials and massages from tony local spas?

All of this can only mean it's time for Rittenhouse Row's Spring Festival, when 50,000 people descend on Center City's streets, transforming it into a combination Steven Starr eatery, day spa and runway at Milan, Italy's fashion week.

This year, nearly three dozen restaurants from Le Bec-Fin to the new trendy Tavern 17 will offer up their most gourmet appetizers, and a dozen spas, beauty clinics and clothing stores will offer hourly tutorials and information sessions. There also will be the usual children's activities, including face-painting and musical performances, chef demonstrations and a jazz music stage Park Hyatt Philladelphia at the Bellevue. There is no admission fee; food samples are pay-as-you-go. For more information, call 215-972-0101 or go to www.ritten
