Firefighters pick new union chief

Members of the Philadelphia firefighters union have ousted President Bill Gault and voted in Joseph D. Schulle, a battalion chief, as his replacement.

Members of the Philadelphia firefighters union have ousted President Bill Gault and voted in Joseph D. Schulle, a battalion chief, as his replacement.

Mail-in ballots for Local 22 of the International Association of Fire Fighters were counted Wednesday, and Schulle won by a vote of 1,736-1,209, said Mike Bresnan, the union's recording secretary.

The union has been locked in a bitter struggle with the Nutter administration over a new contract. The union has been working without a contract since 2009. - Robert Moran
