Cheltenham Township Police and the FBI are investigating a bank robbery in the township's Cheltenham Village section.

Police Chief John Norris said a male suspect entered the Sovereign Bank at 500 Central Avenue at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, took out a silver, semiautomatic handgun and demanded money from two tellers. The suspect fled west on foot along Laurel Avenue, after employees gave him an undisclosed amount of cash. Police officers and K-9s did not find him.

The suspect is described as about 5-foot-five inches and wearing a gray-hooded sweatshirt with the word "NIKE" and the NIKE Swoosh logo in black on the front, an orange or red shirt under the sweatshirt, black pants and a black scarf covering part of his face.

Anyone with information can call Cheltenham detectives at 215-885-1600 extension 499, or the anonymous tip line at extension 777.
