Domino's, Family Dollar, Penn Cafe shut for Philly health violations
Long River was one of 20 restaurants ordered by the city health department to temporarily close at some point from Nov. 21 through Dec. 8. A reinspection costs each business $500.
The Family Dollar was ordered to close for 48 hours to get rid of any more pests. That order followed a Nov. 4 inspection (also resulting in a mandated shutdown) that uncovered widespread mouse feces, an odor of rodent urine and gnawed cat treats, Cheese Doodles and chocolate candy.
"Please know the safety of our associates and customers is our first priority, and we take situations like this very seriously," said Family Dollar corporate spokesman Randy Guiler. "We have been working with the owner of the property, the health inspector and pest control services to resolve the issue."
The health department visited more than 500 eateries and food retailers between Nov. 21 and Dec. 6. Each eatery inspection is generally regarded as a "snapshot in time," and not necessarily a reflection of day-to-day conditions. Most violations were fixed immediately on site.

Severe mouse infestation; mouse feces on food in walk-in cooler and prep units; person in charge allowed restaurant to operate with rodent infestation; shrimp thawing in stagnant water; "dying German cockroach nymph observed on a prep table.
