Holy Spirit senior linebacker Jeff Steeb has committed to attend Villanova University on a football scholarship.

Steeb, a defensive leader for the No. 1 team in The Inquirer Top 25, said he made his decision over the weekend. He had visited Villanova for its Oct. 25 game against Maine.

"I toured the campus and it's just beautiful," Steeb said Monday night. "I like that it's a good academic school and I like the football program. I like the way the coaches treat you."

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Steeb said he was recruited to play linebacker at Villanova. He plans to major in criminal justice.

He also had an offer from Delaware.

Steeb has helped Holy Spirit to an 8-0 record. The Spartans are the No. 1 seed in the Non-Public 2 state tournament and will host Pingry in the first round on Friday night.

With four more wins -- including Thanskgiving Day against rival Atlantic City -- Holy Spirit would complete the program's third 12-0 season since 2007.

Steeb said he and the rest of the Spartans' seniors are determined to help the Spartans win their fourth state title in a row.

"Not to many people can say they've done that," Steeb said of winning four state titles during a high school career. "That would mean so much to all of us."
