Can Oztamur said it was a "statement game" for the Cherry Hill West boys' basketball team.

Cherry Hill West  overcame a flurry of missed free throws to beat Bishop Eustace 47-43 in double overtime in an Olympic Conference inter-division clash of Top 10 teams on Tuesday night.

Oztamur, a 6-foot-6 senior, generated 23 points with 14 rebounds but struggled from the field and from the foul line.

"He's an 85 percent foul shooter," CH West coach Hamisi Tarrant said of Oztamur.

CH West (2-0), the No. 7 team in The Inquirer Top 10, was 6-for-18 from the foul line. The Lions missed the front end of three one-and-ones between the 1:30 and 0:43 mark in regulation.

"We're not there yet but we pulled it out," Tarrant said. "It's good for our confidence, good for our reputation as a program."

Senior guard Elijah Bey scored 7 and played a strong floor game and junior Danny Buckwalter added 9 points with 6 rebounds for Cherry Hill West.

"Last year, we don't win this game," Bey said. "But we've got the experience now."

Senior forward Brandon Cazan scored 19 with 9 rebounds for No. 10 Bishop Eustace (1-2).

The Crusaders took their first lead when Eric Sobocinski buried a three-pointer for a 41-39 advantage with 0:27 left in the first overtime.

But CH West's Jack Goan scored on a follow shot to tie the score.

Oztamur scored eight after regulation -- four in each overtime period.

His short turnaround jumper on the baseline opened the scoring in the second OT. He added two free throws later in the period.

"I was going to give it everything I've got," Oztamur said. "I hate to lose. This was huge for us."
