Caesars Entertainment Inc.'s Atlantic City mini-empire isn't standing still in the ever-escalating headliner arms race by the sea.
Thursday, the four properties owned by the Vegas-based gambling conglomerate will announce a slew of summertime bookings covering various precincts of the show business landscape.
Most of the action will take place at Caesars Atlantic City's Circus Maximus theater. Recalling a time when multiple-day headliner runs were the norm along the Great Wood Way, Caesars is bringing in several acts for what's been dubbed "mini-residencies."
The first is that of R&B diva Mary J. Blige, who checks in June 29 through July 4. She'll be followed by Blue Man Group (July 13-20) and Vegas faves Donny & Marie Osmond (July 31-Aug. 4).
But wait, as they say on TV infomercials, there's more!
Fans of hair bands and power ballads will no doubt swoon to hear the Broadway smash, "Rock of Ages," is booked Aug. 14-Sept. 2. And if laughs are what you crave, two of the hottest names in comedy have also signed on the dotted line: Jamie Foxx, who is bringing his "Foxxhole Radio Celebrity Weekend" back to AyCee July 5 and 6, and the reigning queen of "I can't believe she said that," Sarah Silverman (July 7).
Caesars will also be the site of the 3rd Annual Tribeca Film Festival Cinema Series. Every Friday and Saturday night in July and August, there will be free beach screenings of movies selected for exhibition at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until June for the schedule of flicks to be released.
As for the other three Caesars properties, reggae avatars The Wailers will hit Sammy's Beach Bar at Bally's Atlantic City May 25, while House of Blues inside Showboat Atlantic City celebrates the Memorial Day weekend with alt-rockers Garbage (May 25), country heroes Big & Rich (May 26) and another alternative rock act, Alien Ant Farm (May 27). The latter gig is a freebie at HOB's casino Party Pit.
If reality TV is your fetish, you'll be thrilled to know The Most Important Woman in the World (or so the media makes it seem), Kim Kardashian, will bring her fabulousness to The Pool at Harrah's Resort May 27.
And speaking of cable-TV stars, such big-time stove jockeys as Tyler Florence, Buddy Valastro, Andrew Zimmern, Anne Burrell, Robert Irvine and Nadia G. will make the scene at the annual Atlantic City Food & Wine Festival, July 26-29.
Finally, as previously announced, Madonna caps off the summer with a Caesars-sponsored spectacle at Boardwalk Hall.
