A Cheyney University student who threatened to "pull a re-enactment of Columbine and Virginia Tech" at the school over Twitter this morning was identified this afternoon and turned himself in to police, according to a Cheyney spokeswoman.

Around 9 a.m., the University posted brief messages on their website and the Cheyney Police Department's Facebook page reporting the threat.

"There really never was any danger but we took precautionary measures in case it had been the case," said Pamela Carter, university spokeswoman.

The student, whose identity Carter did not know, was upset at the school over what "seemed like a pretty benign issue," she said, declining to elaborate.

Carter also declined to confirm statements she made to another media outlet indicating the student was angry over parking tickets. She said that was "early information."

A campus alert that was sent out around 9 a.m. was lifted this afternoon. Carter said the campus was never on lock down and that classes ran as usual.

She said she didn't know if the student was going to be charged with a crime or expelled from the school.

Cheyney is the nation's oldest historically black college and has an average student body of around 1,500.
