Cops: Man, 27, stable after being shot in the face in Olney

A 27-year-old man was shot in the face in the city's Olney section late Thursday night.

A 27-year-old man was shot in the face in the city's Olney section late Thursday night.

Cops said the man was dropped off at Albert Einstein Medical Center around 10 p.m. He told investigators he'd been at 4th and Ashdale streets when someone shot him, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Small said police found a gruesome, bloodsoaked scene where the man had been shot.

"There's lots of blood," Small said. "He ran a block, and everywhere he went, there's blood. There's blood on the ground, on the sides of cars, near his phone."

Small said police also found a 9mm Kel Tec handgun discarded at the scene. Police were looking into the possibility that the gun had been dropped by the victim -- whom investigators said is no stranger to police -- but he told them it wasn't his.

Also dropped was the victim's cell phone, according to police.

What led to the shooting remained unclear late Thursday night. Despite his injuries, Small said, the man was listed in stable condition at Einstein.
