Kermit Gosnell (.com) for sale for $959

Kermit Gosnell, the West Philly abortion doc accused of running a human slaughterhouse, is for sale.

Kermit Gosnell, the West Philly abortion doctor accused of running a human slaughterhouse, is for sale.

Actually, the domain name bearing his moniker - www.kermitgosnell.com - is for sale for "only $959" on Nowyo.com, a site that sells "premium domains."

Gosnell was charged in January, along with nine of his staffers, with killing seven babies and a woman at his hellish clinic, the Women's Medical Society. Allegations include that Gosnell delivered babies alive during late-term abortions, then cut their spinal cords with scissors and kept some of the corpses in freezers at his office.

According to Nowyo.com, the phrase Kermit Gosnell is searched 5,400 times a month locally and 6,600 times a month globally on Google alone. The "cost per click" for the phrase "Kermit Gosnell," or the amount one would pay per click to show up in Google's sponsored links, is $0.10, Nowyo says.

A representative for Nowyo.com, who declined to give his name, said the company sees how many people are searching for a name or phrase each month to determine whether they want to buy it from a registry.

"We have 60,000 names. We have no idea who that guy is," the representative said. "We just saw it had big stats, a lot of people were searching for it and it wasn't trademarked, so we bought it."

He said the company determines a selling price for the domain name using an algorithm based on how many people are searching for the phrase and whether the site is a .com, .net or .org. He said the company often sells domain names to models and reality TV show stars who didn't realize that so many people were searching for their names.

Gosnell remains in jail without bail and there is a gag order on his case, preventing those involved from speaking about it. He is next due in court Sept. 8 for a motions hearing, according to court documents.
