When Lou Reed passed away this past October at 71, he left a Velvet Underground-sized hole in pop culture that's unlikely ever to be filled. But that isn't stopping local music blog Tri-State Indie from trying.
Saturday, Dec. 7 at World Café Live, Tri-State will unleash a dozen local acts on a (hopefully) crowded room in tribute to Lou Reed and the founding members of the Velvet Underground. Confirmed acts include Our Griffins, Dominic Angelella of Drgn King, Weekender, Black Stars, and more. Which is to say, brace yourself for a protopunk explosion with a modern edge.
Tickets run just $8, with proceeds from the tribute will benefit hunger charities MANNA and Philabundance. Tri-State organizers ask that attendees bring along with them a non-perishable food item for the latter. Because, after all, nothing says rock 'n' roll like canned goods.
Well, except maybe Lou Reed.
