Giroux gets x-ray on ankle

PITTSBURGH -- Claude Giroux received an x-ray on his ankle post-game, after being hit in the skate with a shot in the Flyers' 3-2 opening night win over division-rival Pittsburgh.

Giroux declined to talk about the injury but was seen visibly favoring his ankle while walking back to the locker room.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Giroux's injury was "nothing," less than five minutes after Giroux returned from the x-ray room. Holmgren had not even received the results yet.

Giroux will be re-evaluated on Friday in St. Louis but Holmgren said he will be fine for Saturday night's game against the Blues.

Then again, we've heard this before - just last week regarding Michael Leighton's lower back injury.

STAT OF THE NIGHT: Jeff Carter, who was a minus-1 with three shots on goal, played just 15:20. That's a full 5:22 less than linemate Mike Richards. Carter, who has been a fixture in the past on the penalty kill, did not play a single second shorthanded last night. The Flyers were 4-for-5 on the penalty kill, including the biggest kill of the night in the final 74 seconds.
