Maybe the second time will be the charm.

Gov. Corbett has yet again appointed his onetime chief of staff to an Allegheny County judgeship.

Earlier today, the governor announced that he is nominating Bill Ward to the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas. Ward was Corbett's chief of staff for just under 18 months starting in 2011. He left the administration in May 2012 as the governor, battling sagging public approval ratings, was facing pressure to make changes to his senior staff roster in the administration.

That same month, Corbett named Ward to the Court of Common Pleas in Allegheny County.

But Ward lost the election for the seat last November, so Corbett is nominating him again to fill a seat on the bench that is vacant because of another judge's retirement.

If his nomination is approved by the state Senate, Ward will get to serve until January 2016.
