Nutter poll: Nutter more popular than Street

Mayor Nutter may have his hands full with Superintendant Arlene Ackerman and the cash-hungry Philadelphia School district, but a new poll finds he need not worry about any potential defeat in November by his predecessor, John F. Street.

The poll - released this afternoon by the Nutter for Mayor campaign - says in a nutshell that "In a three-way match-up against GOP candidate Karen Brown and former Mayor John Street as an Independent candidate, Mayor Nutter receives 67 percent of the vote, Karen Brown receives 14 percent and John Street, 13 percent."

The poll was conducted May 31 and June 1, with questions asked of 503 likely general election city voters. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.5 percent.

Among the details, the poll found Nutter had far more favorable ratings than Street (surprise anyone?) and that Nutter's leadership of the city has been better than Street's. In addition: "60 percent of voters say they prefer to reelect Michael Nutter as mayor, while just 26 percent say they prefer to elect someone else."
