Thief complicates Council hearing
UPDATE: A Council source says police have reportedly found video imagery of a homeless woman entering Council Chambers and rifling through drawers before taking the stenography machines. No info yet on when she was there or her identity.

Tuesday morning's Council hearing on Property and Public Works was delayed because a thief apparently made off with two stenographer machines that have been stored safely within Council Chambers for years.
Sometime between Thursday afternoon, when the last hearing ended, and 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, someone got into Council Chambers and took the two machines, valued at several thousand dollars each.
Council continue with the hearing after a 40-minute delay, as each session is recorded for posterity on DVDs. Police are sorting through surveillance images for evidence, though security cameras were also once stolen from the stately chamber.
