Source: Owls experience effects of high altitude
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Publically, Temple says playing here in the high altitude isn't a problem.
Owls coach Steve Addazio even joked Wednesday that he was unaware of the high altitude while practicing for Saturday's Gildan New Mexico Bowl game against Wyoming at University Stadium.
But a source close the situation said Saturday morning that the light air has caused problems for the Owls. He said a number of the players have experienced sickness, dizziness, headaches and shortness of breath at practice. The source added that tailback Bernard Pierce and defensive end Morkeith Brown, in one way or the other, are among the players that experienced the effects.
But the source added the problems might be the result of "Adazzio's baptism by fire" in regards to getting his players adjusted to the high altitude.
Temple had a two-hour practice shortly after it arrived here Wednesday. The Owls also practiced Thursday and had a walk-thru Friday.
