Temple helmets adorned with patch commemorating Lewis Katz
Watching the game tonight – and for the rest of the season as well – you'll notice on the football helmets a patch commemorating the life of long-time Board of Trustee member and philanthropist Lewis Katz.
Katz was killed in a plane crash on May 31 of this year. A former Temple student, Katz had served as a Temple trustee since 1998. Katz began his relationship with the university as a student in the early 1960s.
"Lewis Katz was a tremendous leader, supporter, and believer in Temple and Temple athletics," said football coach Matt Rhule. "His impact is missed both here on campus and throughout all the communities he touched with his many business and philanthropic endeavors. I wish he was with us here at the game. These decals are just one way for us to let people know he's always with us."
The former co-owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Katz pledged $25 million to Temple in the fall.
