Baseball: Haddonfield stuns Audubon

After falling behind by 3-0 to one of the best teams in South Jersey, Haddonfield rallied with six unanswered runs and stunned Audubon by a 6-3 on Saturday.

Junior pitcher Jason Cavanaugh allowed three runs on three hits in the first inning, then shut down the heaby-hitting Green Wave over the final six innings. Cavanaugh faced just 23 batters over the final six innings.

"I was just trying to stay away from the middle of the plate," Cavanaugh said.

The game had huge Diamond Classic implications. Audubon would have clinched the Colonial Liberty's automatic berth with a victory.

But Haddonfield's win means that Haddon Township will earn the Colonial Liberty's automatic berth. Audubon (14-4) still is likely to receive an at-large berth.

Catcher Boomer Wickersham had two singles and rightfielder Zach Welsher had a two-run single for Audubon.

"We just didn't hit," Audubon coach Rich Horan said.

Haddonfield (10-6) scored three times on bases-loaded walks in the first. Robert Perkins also had an RBI infield single in the first.

Mike McLaughlin drove in a run with a fourth-inning single and another run scored on an error in the fifth.
