Phillies name new player development director

Joe Jordan has been named Director, Player Development for the Phillies, the team announced today.

He replaces Chuck LaMar, who resigned last month. LaMar carried the title of assistant general manager.

The Phillies received permission to speak with Jordan earlier this week.

Jordan, 49, spent the last seven seasons (2005-11) as the Baltimore Orioles' director of amateur scouting. Under his supervision, the Orioles drafted outfielder Nolan Reimold (2005), catcher Matt Wieters (2007) and pitchers Zach Britton (2006) and Brian Matusz (2008),

"We couldn't be happier to bring Joe aboard as our new player development director," said assistant general manager Benny Looper. "He is widely respected around the game and his resume speaks for itself."

Jordan worked with current Phillies assistant GM Scott Proefrock with the Orioles.

Prior to joining the Orioles, Jordan spent eight years (1997-2004) with the Montreal Expos and Florida Marlins in various capacities. He began his career as an area scout with the Expos in 1997 before being named Midwest Supervisor in 2001, a position he remained in following Montreal's front office staff moving to Florida in 2002. He served as the National Crosschecker in his final two years (2003-04) with the Marlins.
