No word on Utley's status

TAMPA, Fla. -- When Chase Utley was administered a cortisone shot Friday, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said the Phillies should know "before the end of the weekend" if the injection helped relieve the pain in Utley's right knee.

On Sunday, when Amaro addressed reporters on Domonic Brown's likely hand surgery to come this week, he said an update on Utley would come in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Today, Amaro said through a team spokesman that there is nothing to report as of yet on Utley. The GM and second baseman briefly chatted this morning in the Phillies clubhouse back in Clearwater and then went their separate ways.

When deciding on the injection, the Phillies hoped it would kick-start Utley's recovery and get him on the field.

"Hopefully that kind of gets him over the hump," Amaro said Saturday. "We'll probably know by the end of the weekend whether it's helped him. Hopefully it does so he can get back on the field and playing in some games."

So we remain in the wait-and-see pattern for now.
