Philadelphia's hip-hop heroes are still riding high from their Roots Picnic on Saturday at the Festival Pier. The group collaborated with John Legend, as well as Method Man, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, of the Wu-Tang Clan.
Rap icon Fab 5 Freddy was hanging out backstage and got a lot of shout-outs from the various acts who played at the 12-hour extravaganza. Freddy told us that tonight's VH1 "Hip Hop Honors," which he produced, is the best one yet. The show starts at 9. There was lots of national press at the Roots Picnic thanks to the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp.'s Philly 360 arm aimed at African-American tourism.
Vampire Weekend headlined the show, which also included a fun-filled set from South Africa's The Very Best and had Power 99's DJ Diamond Kuts keeping the crowd dancing between bands.
