Closing time for DuPont's Marshall Labs is July 31st
The chemical company disclosed the timing in a filing with state regulators, but workers had already been told of the closing in early May.
All operations at DuPont Co.'s Marshall Laboratory in South Philadelphia will cease as of July 31st, according to a filing with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.
The chemical maker had told employees on May 7 that the facility, where it researched, manufactured and tested automotive paints, would close by June.
In a May 26 notice of a plant closing, as required by the Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification Act, DuPont said that 263 employees would be laid off from the 25-acre site on Grays Ferry Avenue.
The closure of Marshall Laboratory, which DuPont acquired in 1917, is part of new round of restructuring, including the layoff of 2,000 workers, by the Wilmington-based chemical company. Its automotive, construction and industrial markets have been contracting during the global recession.
