Chris Fehr pitched six-plus strong innings and Brian Flacco delivered a two-run single as Audubon won the Group 1 state title with an 8-6 victory over Waldwick Saturday at Toms River East.
Fehr, a senior left-hander, left the game in the top of the seventh with an 8-1 lead. Fehr allowed three runs, two earned, and became the winning pitcher in Audubon's third consecutive tournament victory.
Flacco had the big hit in a four-run rally in the second. Justin Jannetti drove in three runs for Audubon and Boomer Wickersham was 2-for-2 and reached base four times.
Audubon (23-5) won its seventh state title. Only Gloucester Catholic (15) and Bishop Eustace (8) have won more among New Jersey teams.
