An 11-year-old boy was killed and his father was injured early Friday in a fire in their rowhouse in West Philadelphia's Cobbs Creek neighborhood, officials said.
The boy was identified as Elliotte Jenkins Jr. by the Medical Examiner's Office.
He was found dead by firefighters in the house on the 1200 block of Millick Street, officials said. His 39-year-old father was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with burns. There was no official word on his condition.
Firefighters had to contend with temperatures in the teens and bone-chilling winds while battling the 4 a.m. blaze.
Three other houses were damaged in the fire and Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel said nine people were displaced from their homes.
A SEPTA bus was brought to the neighborhood to keep residents displaced by the fire warm and the Red Cross was working to assist them.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
