A man died after he was struck by a car while trying to cross Kelly Drive on foot Thursday morning.

The man was hit in the northbound lanes of the busy road near Brewery Hill Drive just before 9:45 a.m., Philadelphia police said.

There is not a crosswalk or traffic signal there, though there have been numerous calls, including in a 2014 plan for Fairmount Park, for them to be placed at the intersection .

The identity of the victim, a man possibly in his late 60s or early 70s, wasn't immediately known. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:01 a.m.

The driver of the 2016 Subaru that struck him, a 75-year-old woman whose name was not released, remained at the scene. No charges have been filed.

Authorities have said Kelly Drive sees higher rates of crashes than other roads, often due to speeding, though police have not said whether speed was believed to be a factor in Thursday's crash.
