Dale Scalise-Smith, dean of the College of Health Professions at Northern Kentucky University, has been named as the next provost of Widener University.

Scalise-Smith will start her new position in August. Her appointment fills the vacancy left when Stephen Wilhite announced in February that he would step down as provost to return to the faculty.

Scalise-Smith holds a bachelor's degree from Northeastern University, a master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, and a doctor of physical therapy degree from Utica College.

She will be the chief academic officer across the university's three campuses in Chester, Harrisburg, and Wilmington responsible for the school's strategic plan.
