While it's been known since Feb. 26 that Temple will play East Carolina in the first round of the American Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament, the rest of the field is now official.

Temple and East Carolina will play the tournament's first game, on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the XL Center in Hartford.

It should be an interesting tournament because it appears as if top seeded SMU and second seeded Cincinnati are the only NCAA Tourament teams from the conference at this point.

It is likely that any other team that has NCAA aspirations, would have to win the tournament.

The only question concerning Temple was whether the Owls would be the No. 8 or No. 9 seed.

Temple clinched the No. 8 seed with Sunday's 72-60 win at South Florida, coupled with East Carolina's 73-51 loss to Houston.

Temple finished the regular season 16-15 and 7-11 in the AAC, while ECU is 14-17, 6-12.

The winner will have to take on top seeded SMU in Friday's noon quarterfinal.

Temple and ECU have split this season. The Owls won 81-62 at home on Jan. 7 and lost 78-64 at ECU on Feb. 15.

Here is the tournament field.
