Phillies third baseman Cody Ashe, who went on the disabled list on May 25 with a left hamstring strain, began a rehabilitation assignment this weekend in Lakewood.
Manager Ryne Sandberg said after the weekend Asche would play some games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley and estimated he would need 7-8 days.
*Righthander Mike Adams on the DL with right rotator cuff inflammation, was scheduled for a cortisone shot on Friday according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.
"I think we can get him back in the early part of July if he goes in the right direction," Amaro said.
*Amaro added that Darin Ruf, who has a hairline fracture in his left wrist that he hurt while playing for Lehigh Valley should be back in less than a month.
"Three weeks from (Thursday) June 12, is when he should start playing," Amaro said. "When it heals, it'll be playable."
*Freddy Galvis, who suffered a broken collarbone while playing for Lehigh Valley on May 11, is progressing well according to Amaro.
Amaro estimates he could be playing in games by the middle of next month.
*Cliff Lee who has been on the DL with a left elbow strain since May 19, threw again on Friday.
"It went well," Amaro said. "Hopefully he can start going on a straight line."
*Righthander Miguel Gonzalez, who the Phillies signed to a three-year $12 million contract, and is on the 60-day DL with sore right shoulder, threw a bullpen on Thursday in Clearwater.
"He's 93-94 (MPH) which is good," Amaro said. "He threw one inning of a simulated (game) and in another three days we'll try to get him up on the mound and ramped up again."
Amaro said that Phillies president David Montgomery, who underwent surgery last month to remove cancer from his right jawbone, is making very good progress.
