Rotisserie at the Porch: New food option at 30th Street Station

The Rotisserie at the Porch - overseen by the University City District and run by Michael Schulson - is now serving lunch seven days a week from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. as well as dinner/drinks from Wednesday to Saturday.

The Porch at 30th Street Station, the popular food-truck destination outside the transit hub, now has one permanent food outlet as well as a landscaped area around it.

The Rotisserie at the Porch - overseen by the University City District and run by chef-restaurateur Michael Schulson (Sampan, Graffiti Bar, Independence Beer Garden, Izakaya, and the coming-soon Double Knot) - is now serving lunch Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Both the truck and a bar are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday to Friday.

It's similar in format to Schulson's beer garden across from the Liberty Bell. The parked food truck houses a regulation rotisserie. Since everyone seems to be selling rotisserie chicken, Schulson says, he is doing a few other dishes, including lamb and porchetta. Based on Wednesday's opening day, workers kept up with demand.

Menu - keeping it simple - is here. Drink list is here.

Groundswell Design Group (Spruce Street Harbor Park, Morgan's Pier, Independence Beer Garden) installed a series of tiered wooden platforms and planters and vine canopies to create seating areas. Festoon lightning and brightly painted wooden "porch swings" designed by Gehl Studio complete the look.

The UCD said revenue will benefit University City District's West Philadelphia Skills Initiative program, which connects West Philadelphia employers and prospective employees.
