Teresa's Mesa: Los Camaradas adds a casual Mexican spot in Queen Village

Joseph and Theresa Rimmer Scull, whose Mexican bar Los Camaradas is knocking it out of the park at 22nd and Carpenter Streets in Southwest Center City, are branching out with a small, even more casual offshoot in Queen Village.

Teresa's Mesa (727 S. Second St., 215-982-1107), opening Thursday, Nov. 10, reimagines the former Cafe Fulya, the sweet little Turkish corner spot that closed earlier this year. (The connection: Ilker Ugur, Fulya's brother, owns the bricks at both Las Camaradas and Teresa's Mesa.)

The Sculls turned again to artist Tobie Warren, and the result on the walls is a psychedelic riot of fluorescent color. The 40-seater, which serves no alcohol, is being set up as a family friendly eatery where you order at the counter.

Menu includes apps, quesadillas, tacos, and burritos.

Highlights of an informal tasting included the empanadas filled with beets, goat cheese, and Swiss chard (lots of color and texture in a nongreasy empanada); butternut squash guacamole (which balance sweetness paired with salty chips); and both the skirt steak tacos and coconut shrimp tacos.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Weekend brunch is on the way.
