Weekend must-tries: Brunch ideas; lobster fest

Bruno's takes the plunge.

Breakfast and brunch time!

Want to meet a doctor during happy hour? And you happen to be an early bird? MilkBoy at 11th and Chestnut Streets opens weekdays at 7 a.m., mainly to cater to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital workers getting off the third shift.

New chef Brian Mahon has kept MilkBoy's signature bacon bowl but added Welsh rarebit, herbed-panko tuna steak, and the hamouli and watercress salad pictured here. Menu is served all day.

Bruno's, on the Lafayette Hill-Chestnut Hill line for 23 years, just started serving brunch on Sundays - or at least just started calling it "brunch." New items include eggs Benedict, veggie frittatas, breakfast burritos, and lox-and-bagels.

The newest Cavanaugh's location - on Head House Square, where Dark Horse used to be - offers brunch from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. And in quantity: 20-ounce Bloody Marys and mimosas for $10 to wash down omelettes, Irish breakfasts and hash. Pictured is the spinach and goat cheese quiche.

Also:

Hop Angel Brauhaus in Fox Chase is setting up a tent behind the restaurant this weekend for a lobster bake/wheat beer weekend, which means brewery promos and specials such as lobster and Jersey corn fritters plus lobster mac and cheese for $10. They even created a video.

Another *ndulge cupcake shop has opened: 4373 Main St. in Manayunk.

Three Zinburger outlets in New Jersey - Clifton, Cherry Hill and Paramus - are engaged in a "Baseball Burger Battle" by offering baseball-themed burgers representing their local baseball team. The restaurant location with the most sales of the baseball-themed burger through Sunday, June 2 will donate $500 to the local team's charity. The Cherry Hill offering is a Phanatic Phrenzy Burger, a certified Angus Beef Burger with Roasted Peppers, Caramelized Onions, Spicy Pepperoni, Smoked Mozzarella cheese, Roasted Garlic Aioli, Lettuce and Pickles.
