Fiorella's Sausage, which opened in 1892 in the Italian Market and shuttered early this year, is for sale.

Social media buzzed with the news Friday after chef Scott Schroeder posted a photo of the for-sale sign at 817 Christian St.

Real-estate agent Kevin O'Connor, who said the property was offered at $775,000, said the family had decided to close in January after fourth-generation butcher Dan Fiorella became sick. Fiorella did not return a phone call for elaboration.

Billy Penn offers more details.

Change in family-owned businesses is all but inevitable.

In late 2016, D'Angelo's Meats ended its 90-plus-year run around the corner on Ninth Street after Sonny D'Angelo retired.

In a current situation, the original Jim's Steaks shop at 62nd and Callowhill Streets has been closed because of an illness in the family; customers are being steered to the Springfield, Delaware County, location. (The Jim's on South Street is under separate ownership and is unaffected.)
