Union put Zac MacMath, Rais Mbolhi in expansion draft pool

Here's the list of players that the Union have made available for Orlando City and New York City FC to take in the Expansion Draft, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10:

Goalkeepers: Zac MacMath, Rais Mbolhi
Defenders: Austin Berry, Richard Marquez
Midfielders: Corben Bone, Brian Carroll, Danny Cruz, Leo Fernandes, Fred, Michael Lahoud, Pedro Ribeiro
Forwards: Brian Brown, Conor Casey, Antoine Hoppenot, Aaron Wheeler

All of the rules for the Expansion Draft process are here.

It's not too surprising to see MacMath on here, but it certainly sends a message that Mbolhi is included as well. That's a sign that Jim Curtin made a call about a player who Nick Sakiewicz had a huge role in bringing to PPL Park.

Other than that, Curtin has signaled a willingness to let go of players who haven't seen much time with the senior team. Yes, players like RIchard Marquez and Pedro Ribeiro have a lot of potential, and I could easily see New York head coach Jason Kreis taking a defender with Berry's experience. But beyond that, would any of these guys be a huge loss? Probably not.

New York and Orlando will each take 10 players in the draft from the leaguewide pool of available players, which you can see in full here. Once a team loses two players in the draft, no more can be taken; and once one player is taken from a team, that team may withdraw another available player from the pool.

Don't be surprised if the Union only lose one player instead of two. KYW's Kevin Kinkead reported that the Union may have a handshake deal in place with Orlando to not select anyone from Philadelphia as part of the deal that sent Amobi Okugo south earlier Monday.

Then again, the Orlando Sentinel's Paul Tenorio reported that Orlando City has no such agreement in place with the Union or any other team. So we'll see what happens.
