Throwing bags, kicking balls, lounging about: Leisure is what the season is all about. No one wants to think about presentations at work or the impending fall semester—they want relaxation masked with the smell of sunscreen. Grab a few friends, get outside and have a balling time with these outdoor games.
The popular beanbag toss game, cornhole (or baggo, if you will), takes over the beach in Wildwood, NJ this weekend for the annual Wildwood Cornhole Tournament. Spanning over the course of two days, Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13, teams of two are invited to compete in this yearly tradition. Saturday's contest starts at 11 a.m. and is open to players of all ages. However Sunday's tournament is available for players ages 18 and up since cash prizes are on the line. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday and both days' games take place on the beach at Wildwood Avenue.
The Delaware Sports Club holds a number of recreational leagues throughout the summer including a kickball league at Alapocas State Park starting Tuesday, July 15 in Wilmington, DE. This league meets weekly and teams of at least 12 (with a minimum of three women on each team) will play this schoolyard staple with game times beginning between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The club also hosts a cornhole league running on Thursdays through September 11, starting July 17 at CR Hooligans in Wilmington, DE. Teams of two to four will square off with start times starting between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Philadelphia Cornhole League gives players multiple opportunities to join a league and extend their play beyond a one-day tournament. Beginning Thursday, July 17 and continuing every Thursday until September 4, Victory Beer Hall at XFINITY Live! welcomes cornhole players for weekly games starting between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Games start between 6:45 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning July 22 at Crabby Café and Sports Bar in the Piazza. And on Wednesday nights, starting July 30, Mad River Bar and Grille in Manayunk has league games starting between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. All Philadelphia Cornhole Leagues are open to all skill levels as they feature multiple divisions within each league. At the end of the regular season, you'll have an opportunity to play for prizes and bragging rights as the winner of the division.
Also sponsored by the Philadelphia Cornhole League, is a one-day tournament in Avalon, NJ. 32 teams will compete for cash and prizes starting at 1 p.m. at the Whitebrier Restaurant on Saturday, July 19, weather permitting.
