A Wayne-based travel company that specializes in cultural, historical and academic tours has received an award from the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce.

The newly created TACC Special Award was given Friday to TunisUSA, which was founded in the early 1990s. The award cited TunisUSA for its efforts "promoting cultural and top of the range tourism in Tunisia."

Founder Jerry Sorkin had taken trips to the North African country for more than a decade, related to his rug business, J.M. Sorkin in Wayne.

Sorkin left the rug company in 2006 to concentrate on his travel business, which also offers tours of Turkey. He resides part time in Tunis, where his company also has an office.
