Sands Resort Casino Bethlehem has been hit with a $48,000 fine for allowing underage people to enter its casino floor and gamble and/or drink, the state announced today.

Sands Resort Casino Bethlehem has been hit with a $48,000 fine for allowing underage people to enter its casino floor and gamble and/or drink, the state announced today.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said the civil penalty was approved unanimously at a public meeting today.

The board said it was the Sands' first fine since it opened in May 2009, and that the company reported each instance to the state.

The events happened between June 1, 2009 and Jan. 23, 2010, and ranged from a 19-year-old being served alcohol and getting into the gaming hall for about two minutes, to a 20-year-old getting access on two occasions and gambling for a combined five hours and 40 minutes. That person was cited by state police for defiant trespass, the state said.    - Roslyn Rudolph
