Kanye on psych hold

Kanye West was put on a psychiatric hold Monday at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after his doctor called 911 to report a "psychiatric emergency."

West, 39, who has been making headlines for his increasingly erratic behavior at recent concerts, was intercepted at his trainer's gym, handcuffed to a gurney, and taken to the hospital after his doctor, Michael Farzam, reported the singer was suffering from temporary psychosis as a result of sleep deprivation and dehydration, says TMZ.

The handcuffs are apparently standard procedure in psychiatric hold cases.

Farzam, using the pseudonym Jim Jones, told police that West was not violent, even though he had tried to assault a gym staffer.

Other sources say West went to the hospital of his own accord.

Kanye "is exhausted and currently dealing with sleep deprivation," one anonymous insider tells People. "He went to the hospital at will under the advice of his physician."

Another source on Tuesday told People that West's problems aren't merely physical. The singer, the source said, "feels like he's under spiritual attack."

Wife Kim Kardashian was headed to New York on a private jet for an appearance at a benefit but flew back to L.A.
