Public forum on school violence, 6 p.m. today

The Inquirer will hold a forum on school violence at 6 p.m. today in the public room of the Inquirer Building as a follow-up to the series "Assault on Learning." The public is invited to attend.

The free event, moved from the National Constitution Center to 400 N. Broad St., will feature Mayor Nutter offering opening remarks.

Panelists will include Tomás Hanna, associate superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia; Steve Korr, a trainer with the International Institute for Restorative Practices; Jack Stollsteimer, former Pennsylvania safe-schools advocate; Wanda Walker, the mother of a student who transferred to a charter school because of violence; and staff writer Susan Snyder, a coauthor of the series.

The "Assault on Learning" series, which can be read here, took an in-depth look at the problem of violence in Philadelphia public schools and the district's response to it.
