THOSE DARLINS: As soon as I heard the lyric "You just wanna stick it in" from "Be Your Bro," I was hooked. They've ditched their country roots for a catchy indie-rock-based second album, "Screws Get Loose."

DARWIN DEEZ: Using the metaphor of a radar detector for a love interest in a catchy pop song - as they do on their single "Radar Detector" - is brilliant. Their live show featuring coordinated dance routines between songs really impressed me.

EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS: Hailing from Bucks County, Eastern Conference Champions have taken up residence in L.A. recently, honing their skills and picking. They're back with their rocking-est album yet, "Speak-Ahh."

THE VACCINES: The next big thing from the U.K. Their songs are short, but it doesn't take long for them to get their hooks into you.

LE BUTCHERETTES: These Mexican Yeah Yeah Yeahs-style garage rockers harken back to the earlier, messier days of Karen O's band before all the polish and gloss.

STAR------: Come for the FM-repellent name, stay for the totally danceable electronic, beat-driven tunes. It's Beck meets MGMT on their second album, "Reptilians."

THE JOY FORMIDABLE: The Joy Formidable have a big fan in Dave Grohl (who has taken them out on the road with Foo Fighters). But I played them two years before any of that. Many of their already-epic anthems have been reworked and made even bigger on their full-length debut, "The Big Roar."

THE DIG: Straightforward, solid rock band who play like they mean it and have recently toured with bands across genres in support of their debut, "Electric Toys."

GROUPLOVE: After an outstanding EP and even better live show (high energy + amazing musicianship + mask wearing = awesome), I'm eagerly awaiting the full-length debut slated for September from this fivesome, who met on the isle of Crete.

THE WOMBATS: On their first album, "A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation," they notably "danced to Joy Division." Their playful irreverence continues on the recently released "This Modern Glitch," in which they realize that they may just be techno fans and reminisce about the sheep-cloning craze of 1996.
