MTV Video Music Awards. Miley Cyrus, who kicked up quite a stink with her twerk-eriffic performance with Robin Thicke in 2013, hosts MTV's ode to the medium it no longer plays. Kanye West receives the Video Vanguard Award. Fingers crossed Taylor Swift crashes the stage. 9 p.m. Sunday on MTV.

Explorer: Warlords of Ivory. Philly journalist Bryan Christy commissioned a lifelike artificial elephant tusk and outfitted it with a GPS to see how ivory travels around the world. Fashion Police. E! debuts the retooled lineup for its red-carpet fashion critique show, featuring Melissa Rivers, Giuliana Rancic, and Brad Goreski just in time for the MTV Video Music Awards. All we can say is: RIP, Joan. 8 p.m. Monday on E!

Drunk History. Comedy Central's show has a brilliantly simple premise: Comedians get wasted and try to recount different periods of history that are then reenacted by celebrities. The shtick should have worn thin by now, but it still works. The third season premiere is a historical take on the Garden State. 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Comedy Central.

Hand of God. Ron Perlman plays powerful Judge Pernell Harris, who goes on a vigilante spree after a mental breakdown. All 10 episodes premiere on Amazon Prime on Friday.
