Watch: 'Nashville's' Lower Merion-grad showrunner talks Life After Rayna

The drama survived ABC's cancellation, and now that CMT has renewed it for it for next season, producer Marshall Herskovitz is talking about what follows Connie Britton's recent departure.

Good news, Nashville fans: The show will make it to Season 6, and showrunner Marshall Herskovitz, the Lower Merion High grad best known for thirtysomething, has big plans.

CMT, which picked up the country music-fueled drama after ABC canceled it, announced Monday that it was renewing the show for a 16-episode season, and that the current season would resume with new episodes starting June 1, which will pick up 10 weeks after the recent midseason finale, which found most of the main characters attempting to come to terms with the death of country music legend Rayna James (Connie Britton, whose departure from the show necessitated one of the TV season's more shocking deaths).

Rachel Bilson (The O.C., Hart of Dixie) and Kaitlin Doubleday (Empire) will join the cast for the second part of the season.

Here, Herskovitz talks about what comes next for Nashville, whose  stars include Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Claire Bowen, and real-life singing sisters Maisy and Lennon Stella.
