Wayne writer to read

from her prize novella

Cynthia Reeves, a lifelong Wayne resident, will read from


, her first novella, at 4:30 p.m. next Sunday at Tredyffrin Public Library. The Friends of Tredyffrin Public Library will sponsor a reception after the reading and book signing.


, which follows a married couple through the last day of the wife's life, won the 2006 Miami University Press Novella Contest and was a semifinalist in the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition in 2006.

Reeves is past president of the Friends of Tredyffrin Public Library, and a portion of next week's book sales will benefit the organization. The event is free.

Ex-Navy surgeon general joins Main Line Health

Donald C. Arthur, a doctor who recently retired as a vice admiral in the U.S. Navy, joined Main Line Health as senior vice president and chief medical officer last month.

Arthur served in the military for 33 years. As surgeon general of the Navy and chief of the Navy's bureau of medicine and surgery, he was responsible for medical and dental services for more than 700,000 active-duty service members, and 2.6 million retirees, as well as family members in 30 military treatment facilities.

At Main Line Health, a nonprofit health system, Arthur will work with the acute care hospitals of Bryn Mawr, Lankenau, Paoli and Riddle Memorial; the Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital; and the Main Line Health Centers.
