Pennsylvania. Board excursion trains run by Scranton-area historical and railway societies for the holidays. The round-trip to Gouldsboro takes riders to the world of Dickens' A Christmas Carol (Nov. 29, Dec. 6), and the train to Moscow has photo ops with the train crew and Santa (Nov. 27-28, Dec. 5). Step back in time

New Jersey. See antique sleds, skates, coasters, and more at the 1790s Foster Armstrong House. Costumed guides lead tours of the historic house, adorned with holiday decorations. Bright spot
