2 SEPTA trains collide

in Market East tunnel

Two SEPTA trains were involved in a minor collision in an underground tunnel about 5 p.m. yesterday, delaying other rush-hour trains for 15 to 20 minutes.

Officials said one train rear-ended the other in the Market East tunnel near 11th and Filbert streets. Riders described the collision as a "hard bump," according to reports. Fire officials said more than a dozen people complained of minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals for evaluation.

_ Meanwhile, a 20-year-old woman was hit by a SEPTA bus on Germantown Avenue near Juniata Street in North Philly shortly before 10 last night.

Police said the woman suffered cuts to her legs and head when she walked in the street and tried to flag down the bus. She was listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.

Woman, 22, raped

at 11th & Callowhill

A 22-year-old woman told police she was raped early Saturday near 11th and Callowhill streets.

Police said the woman told them that she left a cab about 3:30 a.m. and that a man forced himself on top of her and tried to put a condom on.

The victim said her attacker was a 5-foot-3, 30-to-40-year-old black man with a thin mustache and thin beard, and was wearing a black shirt. Tipsters can call police at 215-685-3251.

Man charged in shooting;

one bullet grazed cop

A Northeast Philadelphia man was arrested on charges of shooting a man and wounding a cop in Port Richmond early Saturday.

Police said Dario Marrero, 25, of Weikel Street near Monmouth, fired several shots outside Tattletales Bar, on Richmond Street near Allegheny Avenue, about 12:45 a.m., wounding an unidentified man. An errant bullet grazed the face of an off-duty police officer in a Wawa parking lot 200 yards away, police said.

Marrero was charged with attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and related charges.

Mummers plan 2nd annual

Race for the Cure Saturday

The Mummers will slip on their golden slippers again Saturday for their second annual Race for the Cure.

The motorcycle trek, which raises money for Alex's Lemonade Stand and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, will start at 10 a.m. at 2nd Street and Washington Avenue and end at 2nd Street Annie's in North Wildwood.

Participants are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys as well. Registration fee is $20 for riders, $10 for passengers.

Volunteers to help homeless

Sixty volunteers from Project HOME will canvass the city's homeless shelters and soup kitchens today to help the less fortunate get to the voting booths.

Earlier this year, volunteers helped thousands of homeless and low-income people become registered voters as part of the Vote for Homes Coalition. *
