Weekend violence claims 4 lives

Cops check report of rape outside Linc

Four men were killed throughout the city this weekend, including a North Philadelphia man allegedly stabbed to death by a friend inside of his own house.

Meanwhile, a woman was allegedly raped after the Eagles game outside of Lincoln Financial Field.

Also, an unidentified 41-year-old man was in critical condition at a local hospital last night after being shot while driving his Toyota Highlander on the Schuylkill Expressway near Passyunk Avenue, said a state police spokeswoman.

The man was shot once in the head about 9:30 p.m. and transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The Delaware Port Authority and State Police closed off the section of the expressway pending an investigation. Authorities gave no word on suspects or motive.

The stabbing occurred about 4:15 a.m. Saturday at the home of Bernard Marrow, 41, of College Avenue near Poplar Street, following an argument between Marrow and Carlos Braswell, of Dayton Street near Powell Place, in Newark, N.J., said Officer Christine O'Brien, police spokeswoman.

Police who responded to the scene found Marrow in a rear bedroom of his home with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead there at 4:25 a.m.

Braswell, who claimed to be Marrow's friend and remained on the scene for reasons yet unknown, was taken into custody in the slaying, Homicide Sgt. Bob Wilkins said.

A knife recovered in the kitchen sink is believed to be the murder weapon, he said.

As of yesterday, police did not know the nature of the argument, the nature of the men's relationship or Braswell's age.

About 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the city's Oxford Circle section, Marquel Colbert, 18, of Akron Street near Pratt, was shot multiple times on Pratt Street near Oakland, around the corner from his home, O'Brien said.

Colbert was being driven to a nearby hospital when police pulled the car over, based on radio information of a vehicle observed leaving the scene, Wilkins said.

Once officers realized the victim was inside the car, a rescue transfer was called and Colbert was taken to Frankford-Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m., police said.

An arrest has yet to be made in the case, but Wilkins said the shooting followed an argument.

At about the same time, 7:45 p.m. in the Overbrook section, Robert Byrd, 36, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in an alleyway off of Allison Street near Jefferson, police said.

Byrd, of Fairmount Avenue near 38th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:02 p.m., O'Brien said.

Police later learned that a second victim from the same shooting, a 37-year-old man, had been treated at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for a gunshot wound to his right arm.

It's not believed that the men were shooting at each other, but rather, that they were both the victims of a double shooting, Wilkins said.

Police are still searching for suspects and trying to determine a motive in that case.

At 8:30 last night, the body of a 35-year-old man was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest in a car parked at 29th and Thomspon streets, O'Brien said. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m. Police reported no immediate arrests.

As of last night, Special Victims was investigating an alleged rape outside of Lincoln Financial Field. The report was made by a woman who police say was intoxicated and uncooperative.

She told police that a man wearing a yellow shirt raped her on a bus in the stadium parking lot.

Police are still searching for suspects in the case of a 16-year-old boy who was shot Thursday night and succumbed to his wounds Friday afternoon.

Rasheed Harrod, of Spring Garden Street near 34th, lived just four blocks away from the 34th Street and Wallace location where he was shot on the left side of his head about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he died at 1:10 p.m. Friday, O'Brien said. *
