Cops: Ex-tenant attacks landlord with chain saw, then tries to run him over

Remember that scene in "American Psycho" in which Christian Bale chases after the woman with a chain saw? Anthony Montagno lived it - except he survived.

Remember that scene in "American Psycho" in which Christian Bale chases after the woman with a chain saw?

Anthony Montagno lived it - except he survived.

Police say the Delaware County landlord encountered Daniel Hagan, his former tenant, in Ridley Park Thursday, and told Hagan, who had recently moved out, that he owed him money.

"Then it started," police Chief Thomas Byrne said.

Instead of paying him, Hagan, 31, went berserk, attacking Montagno with a power saw, police said.

"I guess he just went off," Byrne said.

Montagno was cut on the arm.

The landlord attempted to retreat from what had become a "life-threatening altercation," according to the criminal complaint, but Hagan wasn't done.

Police said that he hopped into his Dodge Dakota pickup truck and drove it directly at Montagno, trying to run him over.

"Montagno, seeing the truck bearing down on him, jumped out of its path," Ridley Park Detective Sgt. Harold Snyder wrote in his report.

Hagan slammed his truck into a parked car near where the landlord was standing, then fled the scene.

While police were searching for him, he drove to the police station and surrendered.

"I guess he thought, 'The guy knows who I am; I lived there; I gave him my forwarding address,' " Byrne said.

Hagan was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license, police said. He was awaiting his preliminary hearing at the Delaware County prison.
