Fatal shooting outside Grays Ferry bar

A 41-year-old man was shot and killed outside the Big Fellas Sports Bar Saturday night, police said.

James Taylor, of Chester Avenue near 69th Street, was outside about 9:30 p.m. with a group of about a dozen people when a gunman approached the group and opened fire, Homicide Lt. Mel Williams said.

The shooter, who remained unidentified last night, hit Abbott twice in the back and ran off, police said. Abbott was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania at 10:20 p.m., police said.

2 men shot at troubled club

A man was in custody last night following a double shooting outside the Palmer Social Club about 3 a.m. yesterday.

A man in his 20s was hit once in the chest and taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in critical condition, police said. The second victim, a 25-year-old man who was shot once in his right leg, was also taken to Hahnemann, where he was listed in stable condition yesterday.

Police released no information on the man taken into custody, except to say that he was 21.

Police are seeking help in finding a burglar who allegedly hid inside a Kmart until the store closed on Friday, then disabled the store's alarm system and stole merchandise worth $10,000.

In surveillance video released by police yesterday, the burglar can be seen entering the store and going into a storage area. Police said that he then stole game systems, laptops and TVs before fleeing about 12:30 a.m.

Police described him as a black man about 30, 5 feet 11, with a goatee. He was wearing a dark shirt with white stripes and dark pants. Tipsters should contact the Northeast Detective Division at 215-686-3153.

Police are seeking the public's help to track down a man they say broke into an Olney food market and stole $300 worth of cigarettes, milk and cereal Friday morning.

Surveillance video of the incident released yesterday shows the thief throwing a large object through the glass door of Penn's Food Market, at Rising Sun Avenue and Tabor Road, just before 3 a.m. Friday, then going inside and taking several items.

He was described as a white man with dark hair and a medium build. He was wearing a dark jacket, dark pants and carrying a dark-colored backpack with an image of a bat on it, police said.

2 'critical' after shooting

A man and woman were critically injured by gunfire in a double shooting yesterday morning, police said.

About 10 a.m., the man, 22, was shot once in his left shoulder, once in his right forearm and once in the right side of his torso, police said.

The woman, 24, was hit once in the chest and twice in the back. Both were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where they were in critical condition last night, police said.
