At least five casino proposals expected

IF PHILADELPHIA bids on the city's second casino license, the competition will be fierce.

Other likely bidders include:

* Developer Bart Blatstein, who has the highest profile in the bidding, is pitching a casino on the former site of the Daily News and Inquirer at Broad and Callowhill streets.

* The Goldenberg Group of Blue Bell is expected to apply for the license to build a casino on a parking lot at 8th and Market streets.

* Parkway Corp., which operates parking garages in the city, is working on an application for one of its many locations.

* Baltimore-based Cordish Cos. announced last week that it would partner with the owner of the Parx casino in Bensalem for a casino on Packer Avenue near 10th street.

* Casino developer Steve Wynn told the Inquirer on Thursday that he wants to build a casino along the Delaware River in Fishtown.

The second casino license is available because of actions Wynn took in 2010. He agreed to partner with a group of local investors who held the license but were stalled on building a South Philly casino. Wynn dropped out of the project seven weeks later. The state Gaming Control Board revoked the license in December 2010.
