The Eagles today released linebacker Dhani Jones, who played for the team for the past three seasons. Jones signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2004, replacing Carlos Emmons, who went to the Giants -- Jones' previous team.
Jones (6-foot-1, 240 pounds) is entering his eighth year in the NFL. He had 55 tackles and 21 assisted tackles in 16 games last season, and had a total of one sack in three years. He also made two interceptions, forced two fumbles and had one fumble recovery.
According to the team's web site, Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said on Sunday that second-year linebacker Chris Gocong was No.1 on the team's depth chart at strongside linebacker, Jones' position.
Gocong (6-2, 263) was the Eagles' third-round draft pick out of Cal-Poly in 2006. He missed all of his rookie season with a neck injury.
