Junior Rachel Manson scored three goals to lead host Penn past Boston University, 11-5, yesterday in the first round of the NCAA women's lacrosse tournament.
The Quakers (15-1) advanced to face Maryland, a 13-7 winner over Yale, in the second round. Penn will host that game at Franklin Field on Saturday at a time to be announced.
Boston University finished with a 13-6 record. The game was played at Penn's soccer stadium, Rhodes Field, because graduation ceremonies were being held at Franklin Field.
Penn's win was its first in the NCAA tournament since 1983, when it beat Loyola, 9-5, in the first round.
Quakers goalkeeper Sarah Waxman made seven saves while allowing just five goals.
